Step 2 - Complete your profile

Please ensure you sign in and complete your profile. This includes:

‘Skillshare’ is the name of BLOC’s primary feature, which allows members to exchange skills with other members of BLOC. This is a way for users to share skills and experience, completely free.

The currency used in BLOC is ‘time credits’. Each hour spent helping BLOC users earns a time credit, which can then be used to connect with another member specialising in skills you’d like to develop.

When you register you will automatically receive 2 time credits. These permit you to access skills offered by others in the community straight away.

Each member must pledge to offer and receive an hour of skill exchange every month. This is essential, as it means we don’t have to use membership fees. BLOC aims to create a culture of reciprocity, so make sure to participate with the community straight away, and try to help others in any areas you can.

Once you have verified your email, you will be directed to the Skillshare registration. This is an essential step, which allows members to participate for free. Once you have done this, the BUD team will check your details and approve your membership. Following this, you are ready to go! Keep an eye on your emails to see when you’ve been approved.

Having a complete profile makes you visible in the ‘Members’ stream. The more detail you provide, the better your profile will stand out. This helps create a richer and more trusted network, where other members can see clearly who you are and what you do. The more information you provide, the more you can engage in more meaningful skills exchanges.

When making a profile you are able to add tags such as ‘administration’, ‘coaching’, and ‘community building’’. These enable members to access the ‘Best Match’ feature.

Best Match allows you to quickly find either specific activities or certain members that match the tags in your saved profile. Simply click the 'Search by Best Match' button. Once completed, you will be given a best match, meaning you have a connection in BLOC that shares your interests and strengths.

You will not be allowed to access BLOC features without joining Skillshare. To ensure that BLOC is a safe and trusted network, we need to ask you to share a few more details about yourself. The BUD team will then check these details and approve you as a member of Skillshare.

Step 3 - Add your offer or request a skill

Once you have been approved for the Skillshare we'll notify you by email, and you can start exchanging offers and requests freely. We'll give you two free time credits to get you started.

Adding offers and requests is easy! You can customise exactly what skills you would like to offer or receive, and you can use the search functionality to look for specific requests.

To add your first offer or request, click on 'Your Account', then 'Add an activity'. Choose 'Add an Offer' or 'Make a Request' from the pop-up menu. Please add as much information as you can to make your activity stand out.

Skill exchanges can be completed online via video call, or over the phone. Make sure to mark any offers and requests as complete on the dashboard, and BLOC will record the hours you have completed.
